Sew for a Cause
Join this charitable sewing group and help make useful items for those in need.
Project Description
We are a small group of volunteers who try to fulfill some of the sewing needs of local organizations. We meet on the first and third Thursday of the month from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm at Ragtime Fabrics to work on projects. There are rarely deadline pressures. Time spent on the projects is an individual choice. Usually, there are several projects you can choose from. One of the recently completed projects was 100 Christmas Stockings for Second Home Childcare Center. This has been an annual project for a number of years. Other organizations we have helped include Village to Village, Valley Program for the Aging, First Step, Sentara RMH Cancer Center, Sentara Hospice, and Sentara Hand in Hand Resources Mothers Program. Current projects change from month to month so come see what we are working on. Fidget quilts and lap quilts are recurring projects. We would love to have you join us. If you can't make it to the Thursday sessions, we would welcome any contribution you can make to meet the requests we receive. Also, if you know of needs in our community that we might consider, please let us know. If you crochet or knit and would like to make hats or scarves, we could add those to the Open Doors project. We also put small Granny Squares and circles on our fidget quilts. Supplies are not included although some donated materials might be available.
