Did you know that the first sewing machine was NOT invented by Mr. Singer?! In fact there were many working sewing machines at the time, especially in Europe. However the first person to seek a U.S. patent for the sewing machine was Elias Howe in 1846. His machine was a far cry from the machines we know today, but it was the start of an ever evolving and ever changing world of sewing machines!
