Learn to Sew with Gloria

If you would like to take sewing lessons, come on in and talk to one of the Gals. We will assist you in choosing projects and gathering supplies. We will set up the days and times that work best in your busy schedule.

 

 

In a show of appreciation for the hard work and helpful hands of the Harrisonburg Fire Department, especially at our time of need on March 18, Gloria made two quilts for Ragtime Fabrics to donate to Fire Chief Ian Bennett and the Departments on West Rock Street and Maryland Avenue

Lessons are $28/two hour session
If you bring a friend or friends, it is $24/per person (up to 3 people in a lesson).

Parent/Child classes are 2 for 1: $28/two hour session for both!

Classes offered Tues, Wed, Thurs 9am-5pm;Fri 9am-6pm and Sat 9am-4pm

Want to learn to quilt? Or make a Halloween costume? How about a doll? A beautiful Holiday outfit? We love our sewing center-come and be a part of the fun!

Sewing Lounge

Join us in the Community Sewing Lounge! Once you have taken lessons in the Ragtime Fabrics sewing center, you will be comfortable with how to operate the machines and know where most everything is located. You are welcome to sew in our Sewing Center on your own. We love the activity and you will love the atmosphere!

Hours of Ragtime Fabrics Sewing Lounge

Monday through Thursday: 9am to 5pm
Friday: 9am to 6pm
Saturday: 9am to 4pm

  • Daily $10/day
  • Weekly $25/week
  • Monthly $50/month

Sewing Lounge Guidelines

So that we may continue to offer our lounge to our customers and students, please adhere to the following guide while using the Ragtime Fabric's Sewing Lounge:

  • Before using the Lounge, we request that you schedule a class to learn how to use the machines. Classes are $12/hour.
  • No food or drink in the Sewing Lounge area that includes all cutting areas and machine tables.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times in Ragtime Fabrics and the Sewing Lounge.
  • Good social manners are expected and appreciated.
  • Please do not park in the reserved Ragtime parking spaces next to the building. Parking is available in the Parking Deck one block down Liberty Street or anywhere on-street. Please be sure you have parked in a space that allows you plenty of time.
  • Sign out a machine at the front cutting table and collect the machine accessory kit.
  • Upon opening a machine accessory kit, check the inventory list with the contents. Notify one of the Ragtime gals if the list does not match the contents. You will be financially responsible for the contents of the accessory kit while it is in your care.
  • At end of your session, sign the completed inventory check list and return machine accessory kit to the front cutting table .
  • Place any found items in the labeled “Lost and Found” drawer.
  • If a machine is not working properly , stop using it immediately and notify one of the Gals.
  • Clean up area around your sewing space before leaving.
  • Turn off machine.
  • Ragtime Fabrics is not responsible for accidents .
  • Ragtime Fabrics is not responsible for the end result of project.

Customs, Clothing and Culture During the 1860's: The Hobby of Living History

The Presentations will be taught by local Historian, Lori Dixon, who, with her family, has been doing Reenacting for 15 years. All are welcome and it is free. Please call to reserve your seat 434-5663

Sunday Sew-In

Gloria hosted the first Sunday Sew-In/Pot Luck on Sunday, March 15, 2009.  Eight people attended and had a wonderful time.  It was agreed to plan for Sunday Sew-Ins once every month, the third Sunday.  The next Sew-In is scheduled for September 25, 2011.  Call for more information 540-434-5663.  We would love to have you play with us!

Machine Repair:  Baby Lock machines

*Kyle London, an aircraft mechanic from Broadway, has completed Baby Lock Technical training and is now repairing and cleaning Baby Lock machines on-site
